Exalted Beauty: Madeleine

Exalted Beauty: Madeleine

By Amy E. Fraser
Mixed Media Painting (Black Ink and Acrylic Paint) on 18” x 24” Masonite.

I have just completed a brand new Exalted Beauty painting!
I was inspired to revisit the Exalted Beauty painting series because I wanted to submit something really unique to the upcoming National Association of Women Artists Members Show. As most of you know, it has been a while; I set this painting series aside back in 2005 due to the time and space constraints that occurred between building/moving into our new house and with the demands of full time stay at home Motherhood. Well, a few years have passed; things have settled into more of a routine with Caden and I’ve had this beautiful new studio space for about a year now… So, with no *real* excuses (ha ha - other then a chronic lack of time), I decided to put myself to the test. I’m so glad I did! The new piece *Madeleine* looks a bit different then the first 4, because of a change of scale and medium, but overall I’m pretty pleased with the result. And now I’ve learned that I actually *can* complete the rest of the series *IF* I can learn to be less frustrated with the short bursts of frequently interrupted work time. In other words, I may wait until Kindergarten starts before I attempt another Exalted Beauty painting! But in the meantime – I will be celebrating the fact that one more Exalted Beauty is completed!

If you would like to see this painting in person, please go to the The
National Association of Women Artists 118th Annual Exhibition! It will be held at the very beautiful Monroe Center for the Arts in Hoboken, NJ this year, September 9 – 30, 2007. The Opening Reception is Sunday, September 9th, 12 noon to 5pm.

The
National Association of Women Artists is a not-for-profit organization based in New York City. Founded in 1889, N.A.W.A. is the oldest professional women's fine arts organization in the United States, continually providing a forum for women artists to share ideas and exhibit their work. N.A.W.A. is dedicated to promoting women artists of all backgrounds and traditions through exhibitions, professional programs and its historic archive. N.A.W.A. offers members the opportunity to participate in curated and juried exhibitions in New York City and nationwide in addition to competing for exhibition awards totaling upwards of $10,000 annually.

10 Year Anniversary!

Today is the ten year anniversary of Jody and my first *official* date! Five years later we were married on the same date! So romantic huh? Well, don’t start picturing a romantic evening of hearts and flowers for us tonight because we will be attending a huge and rather non-romantic family event this evening involving steamers (yuck). And we have a packed weekend of exciting, non-stop family events, so, maybe next year? Summer is such a crazy time for us! :)

But not to worry, I haven't really taken a break from the art. In the past week and a half I have invested over 60 hours into the new painting I’ve been working on for the NAWA exhibition. Which I promise to reveal soon!

After that, I plan to get back to work on the Garden Room series so I can have new paintings to exhibit at the Cornish Fair Art Show as well! Very exciting!
So stay tuned! I’ll be back in the art zone next week!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Goofing Off!

Yesterday we went to Weirs Beach on Lake Winnipesaukee and had a fantastic time. The weather was absolutely perfect, we ate lots of delicious junk food and Caden won some very exciting prizes at the arcade… except (much to my relief!) he lost his favorite, a bright red Harmonica, in the spaces between the Boardwalk! The picture above is from a photo box in the arcade. Apparently the machine was broken so we received only half of a grainy set of 4. Oh well, it still captures the moment and I’ve yet to unload the other photos I took so… Walla! today’s illustration for Goofing Off! I’ll try to post some better pictures soon! :)

Going, Going, Gone!

Last Night’s Exalted Beauty Medallion party was another fabulous success! Moni’s home was stunning, as was the delightfully perky hostess in her favorite shade of PINK, and not only that, the woman is a gourmet cook! She whipped up some scrumptious appetizers with the ease and results of a professional chef. Truly amazing! There was a great crowd and many enjoyed Lynn’s previously requested *Nuts and Berries* beverages. It was very apparent that everyone had a fabulous time! Even if it did end in a bizarre trip down memory lane… I totally stick by my claim of amnesia! :)

Anyway, the Sparkling Elegance collection is almost gone and the Amulets also did very well once again. And, as with Julie’s party, I was seeing a tendency toward abstracts and less interest in the floral medallions. I will be keeping this in mind for the creation of future collections. In fact I think I may have bored my newly booked Medallion Party Hostess Heather with this line of thought when she asked what I would do next!

Side Note: I am extremely happy to report that last night’s medallion party threw my SOLD pieces over the 1000 mark! Well, okay, so don’t be too excited for me, MANY of those SOLD pieces were actually hostess gifts! But I don’t pay booth fees for home parties so it evens out. Overall, I think the numbers are pretty surprising considering I just discovered polymer clay 20 months ago! Uh, but I also might mention that there are still 984 UNSOLD pieces still sitting here in the studio… just ask the Mr. He gets this sadly resigned look on his face every time I tell him I absolutely have to make another new collection!

So that’s it for my party report! If I had more time I would share some very *memorable* moments, some involving partial nudity. But I’ll have to leave you guessing because I have a busy day ahead. I’ll be attempting to finish my painting for NAWA today. Technically, I could have until the 30th, but we have a packed weekend ahead starting with a trip to the beach tomorrow, our 10 year anniversary on Friday, and family in from out of town on both sides… so fun and crazy times ahead – no time to paint!

I’ll check back in as soon as I can!

Party Report!

Friday’s Exalted Beauty Medallion party was a tremendous success in spite of our courageous hostesses’ 102 fever. Oh dear! I personally would have cancelled but Julie was AMAZING! She served up some fabulous appetizers and beverages, looked stunning and was as charming as ever, but it was apparent that by the end of the night, the event had really taken it’s toll. Poor Julie was a real trooper! A SUPER HUGE thank you to my Wonder Woman hostess! You Rock!

The Sparkling Elegance collection and the Amulet medallions went very well but there was also a big interest in the Black collection. Overall, it seems as though the abstract shapes fared much better then the florals. My *Buy Three Get A Round Free* was a great motivator once again. Many said they were only planning to buy one and left with four instead! It seemed as though many medallions were purchased for future Christmas gifts. Smart thinking ladies!

I also booked another party for September in Orford at the Beauty Salon. That will be so much fun! What great display opportunities!

And after all that fun and excitement, my partner, Exalted Beauty Representative Lynn and I had an unpleasant surprise. A tire blew out on the Exalted Beauty Mobile, on the highway, in the pitch black! Oh My! Thank goodness Expert Driver Lynn was at the wheel while she executed a text book landing. Yay Lynn! Your awesome! We were very lucky to miss the 100 foot wall of rock and the guard rail! As well as non stop train of 18 wheelers! Unfortunately, and embarrassing to admit, the vehicle and I were not prepared for such a scenario. Argh! So lucky for us, it was the Mr. to the rescue! He’s a tire man from way back so he had the situation under control right away! A great big thanks to the Mr. for driving the almost two hour round trip (with Wild Monkey Child in tow) to save us! My Hero! :)

So that’s the Julie Party Report!

I have Mony’s Exalted Beauty Medallion party tomorrow night!

And somehow, in between, I’ll be working on a brand new painting for the 118th Annual Exhibition of The National Association of Women Artists! The postmark deadline for what I plan to submit is July 30th! So I better hurry!

If you are interested in attending the upcoming NAWA event, it will be held at the Monroe Center of the Arts, in Hoboken, NJ. The exhibition is open September 9th through September 30th. I’ll provide more information on my new painting and the NAWA event very soon!

Wish me luck!

The Fawns

Stopping in to take a little nature break.
Thought I’d share some pictures of the fawns:

These two came romping down my newly structured bank to play in the backyard next to Caden’s swing set. It was adorable! They bounce around like they have springs in their feet! Sadly, I wasn’t fast enough with the camera to catch the *playground* shot, and I barely captured these pictures before mom stomped her warning and sent these two scrambling back into the forest. They sure are cute but they seem to have a taste for my newly sprouted wildflowers!

In other backyard news, my adorable pal the porcupine hasn’t shown up the past few nights. I’m sad because he was a regular here for a while. After spotting a Fisher Cat yesterday I suspect I know what happened to him. Evil weasel!

So should I start writing a wildlife soap opera or what? The Days of our Wild Lives? The Bold and the Wild? As The Wild World Turns? Yeah… I better get back to work!

The Exalted Beauty Amulet Medallion Catalog will be available tomorrow!

Story Land

We took a lovely trip to the White Mountains and brought my son Caden and his friend Killian to Story Land. It was so much fun! The picture pretty much says it all!

Since our return, I have been diligently working on the new Exalted Beauty Medallion collections. All of the Amulets and Sparkling Elegance Medallions have now been strung and beaded and I am currently in the process of photographing them for the new catalogs. It has been exhausting but these medallions are making me very happy! The response from those who have seen them in person is VERY encouraging! I can’t wait to bring them to the upcoming medallion parties! Stay tuned! I should have the catalogs ready very soon!

The Next Collection

I am about halfway finished with the next Exalted Beauty Medallion Collection so I thought I would give you a sneak peek before I started working on the backs.

Here it is:

I've entitled this Exalted Beauty Medallion Collection *Sparkling Elegance*. There are 24 clean, graceful designs in classic geometric shapes, featuring sparkling Swarovski Crystals and a luminous coppery metallic finish. The designs from the Sparkling Elegance Medallion collection are simple but unique; timeless, stylish and the perfect addition to any Exalted Beauty Medallion collection!

If you can’t tell from the *advertising text* above, I’m very happy with the results and I may have a hard time parting with these. You’ll know that’s the case when I can’t seem to get the catalog finished next week! Kidding! I promise to get right to work beading and photographing as soon as we get back from our trip! Have a great weekend everyone!

Ancient Amulets

Here is an overview photo of the finished Exalted Beauty Amulet collection:

A closer look:

I am really pleased with how these turned out! They really have presence.
The varnish needs to cure for a few more days and I still have to put the backs on, but with any luck the Amulet collection should be ready by the end of next week. Just in time for my upcoming medallion parties!

Unexpected Results

When I first approached my latest Exalted Beauty Medallion collection it was with the intention of creating something sharp and contemporary. I wanted to compose a collection that felt sleek, industrial and very modern. But what came out of me was completely different and unexpected. Somehow my subconscious took over when I sat down with my shiny new tools, and the resulting medallions were not Industrial or Modern. Instead they felt reminiscent of timeless magical relics, powerful and sacred, resembling ancient amulets rediscovered from a lost culture. For me, they call to mind the words; antiquity, native, primitive, medieval and symbolic.

Here are the new Exalted Beauty Amulet Medallions fresh from the oven:

I’m working on a finish that highlights the details while making them feel a bit more ancient. I’m really excited about how they are coming along. I’ll share the results with you tomorrow!

Inspiration From Man Land

Man Land is a space in the basement (otherwise known as the boiler/tool room) that is my husband’s domain. I normally stay out of this space because I do not have a real interest in the equipment it contains, despite the fact that I am told by all men who gaze upon it’s glory that it is a very fine work of art indeed. However, this week I suddenly had the notion to create some really contemporary industrial style medallions, so I thought I would invade Man Land to steal some sharp and shiny looking tools, gadgets and hardware to use as inspiration. It’s a wonder what you will discover when looking at the world from a fresh perspective. I most definitely found the inspiration I was looking for, but the resulting direction was not at all what I was anticipating.

Stay tuned! I think you will be as surprised as I was by what happened next!

4th of July Report!

The Parade was a hit this year boasting an audience of a thousand people or more! The floats were great and the kids had a blast. The art show was packed and while I am seriously regretting NOT having a medallion table this year I think the overall show was a big success; Great Local Exposure. Instead of selling medallions, I was able to spend a lovely day with my friends and family and take a much needed break.

Here is a picture of my painting wall in case you were unable to attend the show:

I have more Art Exhibition deadlines coming up; the Cornish Fair, the 118th Annual NAWA Exhibition, the Philip Read Memorial Library fundraiser and more medallion parties scheduled then I can think about so I better get back to work!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday!
Check back in tomorrow and I will reveal the inspiration for my next Exalted Beauty Medallion Collection!
