Weathered Garden Room Squares

This past week was crazed with Valentine’s Day happenings, numerous Mama Dramas and serious winter storms that caused schedule changes. However, despite all, I was able to get in much more painting time then I had originally anticipated. The painting *experiments* have been a very positive and rewarding experience. This week’s texture experiments led to a really interesting weathered look that I am quite pleased with. For some reason, I have been able to let go and not stress as much about the end result. Because of that, the work is improving and my knowledge of the medium continues to expand – which is always a good thing! :)

Here are six new Garden Room Squares:

With the completion of 33 Garden Room Squares I have finally fulfilled my original ambition for this project. I may still continue with this series, as I’ve been having a wonderful time exploring the process. However, I no longer feel that unfinished, *something is hanging over my head* sensation about The Garden Room Collection. Well, of course that feeling never really goes away because of all the new projects and deadlines that continually get added to the list! :)

Speaking of which, here is what’s coming up next:

Heather’s Exalted Beauty Medallion Party: Sunday, February 24th

A NEW N.A.W.A competition for an exhibition “Art Envisions Science” at the New York Hall of Science, Deadline: February 29th

Mer and Mer’s Exalted Beauty Medallion Party (rescheduled): Sunday March 2nd

The 2008 Silent Auction/Group Exhibition at AVA Gallery & Art Center, Deadline: March 15th

Hope to see you there! :)

Textured Garden Room Squares

I have been having a fabulous time experimenting with texture in my paintings lately, as you may have noticed with the recent Exalted Beauties, Saffron and Olivia. However, as much fun as that was, I think it produced some less then desirable bumpy complexions. As a result, I decided that the heavy texture experiments would be better utilized with some Botanical Bioforms. I’m really happy with the results! Here are six new crunchy, crusty Garden Room Squares:

Oh Deer!

More Deer! I can’t help myself, I’m surrounded by them and they make me happy, so I’m sharing! Here they are:

This last picture is a view from the porch. As you can see from this large grouping, the deer have pretty much taken over our land. They are so comfortable here that they even nap in plain view! Derek recently asked how I get the close up photos (as in last week’s Deer Portraits); I have to admit, as much as I long to be *Snow White*, the winter pictures are mostly shot from our windows. I’m not actually out frolicking amongst the herd. :)

Ice Hockey

Here are some recent pictures of Caden doing his Ice Hockey thing:

From the look on his face I see the title of *Hockey Mom* in my future...

Upcoming Medallion Parties

I’m very excited to announce that I have two Exalted Beauty Medallion parties scheduled this month; Sunday, February 17th with Mer and Mer and Sunday, February 24th with Heather and crew! I’m really looking forward to these parties as they are both incredibly fun, great groups of women that I’ve had the pleasure of exhibiting with before. So, just letting you know because I probably will not be blogging as I will be very busy getting ready for those events, and possibly something else (to be mentioned at a later date), but I’ll be sure to check in and post party reports as soon as I’m able. In the meantime, enjoy the next few posts and I’ll catch up with you soon!

N.A.W.A. Notification

I’m a bit disappointed to announce that my work was NOT chosen for the National Association of Women Artists upcoming National Small Works Exhibition. The condolence letter stated that from over 550 entries, only 69 pieces of sculpture and wall works were chosen. I’m not sure if that makes me feel better or not, but whatever the case, it’s been a long while since I’ve competed, so win or lose, this has been a good (post motherhood) experience for me. I hope you will get a chance to attend the event and support N.A.W.A.
