First Day of School

My baby boy is growing up. Here he is on his first day of kindergarten:

So far, so good! Caden is doing much better about this transition then I am. I am thrilled that he’s super excited about school, that he loves his unbelievably awesome teacher Mr. Woody and that he is completely pumped about all the fun events coming up – like pajama day! But couldn’t he pretend to miss me just a little? :)

2009’s second trimester, May through August, has been an absolute whirlwind of activity. I’ve been busy painting, sculpting and exhibiting (both private and gallery exhibitions) but as you can see from the blog, I’ve also been consumed with a multitude of Caden focused summer camps, events and activities. Life has been hectic to say the least! And I do not expect things to slow down any time soon as I have many (what I consider) big events scheduled for the last trimester of the year. Caden’s Rocktacular Birthday Bash is happening in less then three weeks! If you don’t know this already, Caden’s Birthday is a MAJOR happening at our house, involving weeks of planning, shopping, designing, sometimes set building and always a much considered cake creation. Darcy’s Medallion party is September 26th which I am really looking forward to. My much anticipated “WILDFLOWER MEADOW” solo exhibition at AVA Gallery opens October 23rd. In between the aforementioned Second Trimester happenings, I’ve also been working on a new series I hope to complete and introduce at the AVA “WILDFLOWER MEADOW” Exhibition to compliment the presentation of my favorite floral paintings from 2008-9. After the AVA show opens I’ll have to jump into designing and sewing a costume for Caden’s favorite holiday, Halloween. After that, there is the AVA Annual Holiday Exhibition, more medallion parties and Christmas and – oh my! Where does the year go? Well, that’s it for the Second Trimester Review! Lots of stuff happening – I’ll keep you posted!

Tiny Frog

Here is some more frog fun with Caden:

Caden is captivated by tiny creatures and this cute little guy was no exception, especially when the tiny frog decided to leap onto Caden’s shirt and hang out for a bit! Oh my, all I kept thinking was, Caden, please keep your mouth shut or you’ll have a most unfortunate snack! :)

Duxbury Beach

We just had the most phenomenal weekend at Duxbury Beach on The Cape. The weather couldn’t have been better! It was an absolutely perfect mini-vacation. We discovered the extremely charming Duxbury Beach on the way back from our Cape Cod adventure two years ago and had our hearts set on returning for a longer visit. Duxbury was as fabulous as we remembered and well worth the drive. We fell in love with its miles of beautiful clean beach, became nostalgic over the retro 1940’s style Bathhouse, and enjoyed a most excellent seafood dinner at Blakeman’s famous restaurant. Here are a few moments from our fantastic Duxbury Beach trip:

Caden had a great time collecting sea shells and discovering the joy of hermit crabs. I think observing the hermit crabs in their natural habitat was much more thrilling to him then seeing them in cages on the Hampton Beach strip. The hermit crab pictured above (in Jody’s hand) was as tiny as a bug but we saw quite an interesting array of sizes and shell colors (apparently I was so captivated by these little critters I forgot to take more pictures). Hermit crabs were not the only sea creatures Caden got to play with, he found out what it was like to swim with the fishes when a huge striped bass brushed right past him. Okay, so not quite a Dolphin ride, but still fun. Caden also enjoyed digging a giant hole in the sand which caught the eye of other boys that soon joined in the fun. It really was a perfect beach experience. I highly recommend a trip to
Duxbury Beach.

Here are the sensational Zinnias from our “Rock Garden” in a glorious riot of multicolored magnificence:

The Coneflowers are AMAZING this year! They have come in stronger and stronger every season and this year they have made the most outstanding display of pink and orange in the Wildflower Meadow:
